Materials practices of the health care industry are recognized as a major source of environmental pollution and potential harm to health. Mercury, endocrine disrupters, and latex are present in many health care products, threatening the health of patients, workers, and community members. A primary goal of the Sustainable Hospitals Project is to promote and support health care products and practices which reduce pollution and promote safety and health.
To achieve this goal, the SHP is building its clearinghouse of information that can help health care institutions substitute alternative products and practices for more harmful ones. Information is available for the following materials:
If you can suggest additional products or resources that could be added to our clearinghouse of information, please contact us.
If you are a vendor of alternative healthcare products, you can notify us about your products.
