The instrument contains a methyl-alcohol thermometer. A sliding scale between the two tubes compensates for thermal expansion of the silicone fluid due to changes in room temperature and allows for accurate measurement of the air pressure. The pressure scale measures in both millibar (mb) and inches mercury. Acrylic tubing is very durable.
